A new finish needs care after installation. Agree on who handles it before the contractor reaches that stage.
Follow the instructions for your finish
Different finish systems can have different startup requirements. Ask for the manufacturer’s current written instructions and the person responsible for carrying them out. Do not substitute a generic online chemical schedule.
Assign the early-care tasks
Discuss filling, water testing, brushing, equipment operation, and reporting concerns. Know who supplies chemicals and who keeps the records. The handoff should make clear which responsibilities are yours and when they begin.
Wait for the right time
Get specific guidance before using a heater, automatic cleaner, salt generator, or the pool itself. The schedule should follow the selected finish and installation instructions. Water that looks clear is not, by itself, a signal that every part of startup is complete.
Keep a simple record
Save the finish name, installation date, startup instructions, test results, and warranty paperwork. If a concern appears, document it and contact the responsible professional before trying a corrective treatment.
